Florida Solar One Ramps Up New Construction Solar Installations

South Florida Solar Construction Company Does More New Construction Solar Installations

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, Fort Lauderdale, FL, October 2018 – South Florida’s oldest dedicated solar power installer and PV construction company, Florida Solar One, finds itself doing more and more new construction solar installations. The population in Florida is increasing at a steady rate, and this means that new homes are sprouting everywhere. This likely means two things: there is new development being built all over the place, or older homes are being torn down and rebuilt. For whatever reason, Florida Solar One has seen an insurgence of solar estimate requests and contracts to build.

“I keep getting calls from potential customers interested in going solar on their new construction houses. We get some people putting a brand-new roof, but a lot of the calls lately have been from people building a new house from the ground up”, says Kyle Muir, the sales engineer for Florida Solar One. “This makes my job more interesting because I am not only involved in the sales part, but also in the design part of the project. Typically, we go based on roof and past electrical usage to determine a system, but new construction solar installations make my work more in-depth, and more appealing to me”, he added.

Although retrofitting a solar system into people’s homes is still vastly more popular than new construction solar installations, putting a solar system on an existing structure may present some roadblocks that are not present in a new construction solar installation. The three main problems in an existing house are the condition of the roof and electrical service entrance, the space available for the solar equipment (be it roof space, space for batteries, etc.), and a way of financing the project. The condition of the roof and electrical service entrance may make the house inadequate for solar, often requiring the home owner to spend more money redoing their roof and upgrading the main service panel, which can significantly drive up the cost of installation. Not having adequate space is regularly found in houses with many roof surfaces, dramatically decreasing the amount of solar installation space. The last prevailing problem is that many homeowners don’t have thousands and thousands of dollars laying around for solar installations and are oftentimes conned into signing absurd loans or financing programs to be able to go solar.

Planning for a new construction solar installation takes away all the drawbacks from retrofit installations because they house can be designed to eliminate the roadblocks. The house will not have an inadequate roof condition because it will be a brand-new roof (duh), and the main service panel can be designed to be big enough to support all the solar electricity being produced by the solar panels.  Having in mind that the house will have solar panels, the architect can take that into consideration and design a solar-friendly roof. Lastly financing for this project can be lumped into the mortgage loan and pay it off as you would if you hadn’t gone solar. This allows the homeowner also to take advantage of the 30% tax credit on the roof because you need a roof to go solar!
