Florida Solar One Explains Electric Car Charging Station Installation

South Florida’s Tesla Electrician Clarifies Electric Vehicle Car Charging Station Installation

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, Fort Lauderdale, FL, February 2019 – South Florida’s best solar panel installation company and PV electric systems, Florida Solar One, will explain how an electric vehicle car charging station work. Being a licensed electrician and Tesla authorized installer, Florida Solar One gets daily calls from people who recently purchased an electric vehicle and wish to install a car charging station on their home. It is true that you can plug your car into a regular power outlet and your car will charge, but this method makes the recharging process lengthy and may not charge your car in time for the driver to have to use it. The majority of car owners opt to install a car charging station on their property to mitigate this lengthy car charging problem.

The most common type of car charging installation is called “Level 2”, which 240 volts. This type of charger is similar to an electric dryer outlet it’s the most common level used. This level comes standard with your new Tesla car, but typically requires a Certified Tesla Electrician install a 240-volt circuit in near proximity to the car.

Also, very popular at Level 2 is a Tesla 40A or 80A Car Charger.  These require a Certified Tesla Electrician to verify that the electrical service in your home or business is adequate for these fast chargers. Once that is done, a permit may be applied for with the local building department and the installation is scheduled.  Level 2 chargers are the most popular and typically require between three to six hours to top up the batteries. Many houses in South Florida are not adequate to handle an additional 40 amps, let alone 80 amps, to be added to the main electrical service. The cost of an electric upgrade varies by installation and difficulty, and every Tesla authorized installer and licensed electrician will quote differently. Electric vehicle owners, please DO NOT install unpermitted electric vehicle car charging stations; you may overpower your service and cause a fire!

The third choice, Level 3, is direct current (DC), which requires a specific vehicle port. People recognize these as Tesla Super Charging stations. One of these chargers can fill a depleted battery to approximately 85 percent in about an hour. These are rarely installed at a home, but instead can be found on the navigation screen in your Tesla.
