calculate solar rebate

Sometimes the initial cost of solar can be intimidating to somebody who wants to “go solar”. Would a $20,000 solar rebate help? How about $50,000? For most, it would help quite a bit. Florida Power and Light realizes this, so they are re-opening their solar rebate program.

That being said, solar rebates are first come, first serve, and usually go very fast. You can increase your chances of securing a solar rebate by being well-prepared. Here is what you need to know about getting a solar rebate from FPL in 2015:

When: The online application for solar rebates opens at 8:30 am on Wednesday, January 14, 2015.

Where: Customers will go to www.FPL.com/solarrebates in order to complete the application

What: (this is where it gets a bit more complicated) There are different guidelines for residential and business solar systems. This post is dedicated to residential, but stay tuned for an upcoming post about qualifying for a FPL solar rebate for a solar system for your business.

Residential – Residential customers can qualify for up to $20,000 solar rebate for their grid-tied PV system. Put another way, FPL customers can earn $2 for every watt of DC output that their system generates, up to $20,000.

You need to work with a contractor – Residents cannot install their own PV systems in Florida. You can find a checklist to complete with your contractor here: http://www.fpl.com/landing/solar_rebate/pdf/SolarRebate_Checklist_PV.pdf and a full explanation of requirements here: http://www.fpl.com/landing/solar_rebate/pdf/PV_Residential_Standards.pdf

There are many important considerations in the process of selecting a contractor. One of the best ways to ensure that you will be satisfied with a job well-done by the solar contractor you choose, is to check out the reviews of past customers! We are extremely proud to share that Florida Solar One is a five-star review company! You can read some of them for yourself here: http://www.solarreviews.com/installers/florida-solar-one-reviews/

Online Access – Confirm that you have access to your FPL online account. You will NEED to be logged into your account in order to apply for the solar rebate on January 14, so this is a very important step. Now is the time to remember usernames, or get password help from FPL if needed.

Questions – Solar rebate processes can sometimes be confusing! This is one of the reasons that FPL requires working with a contractor. We are here to help!
